Training for teachers in Lac Son District, Hoa Binh Province, under the "Brighten the Power of Radiance" program - STEM for Vulnerable Adolescent.
On April 12, 2024, the Education Department of Lac Son District, Hoa Binh Province, organized a seminar and training workshop on STEM for 170 teachers. The workshop focused on using artificial intelligence (AI), virtual laboratories, and smartphones to facilitate STEM teaching through the process of scientific exploration and technical design.
The journey to Lac Son District, Hoa Binh Province
Lac Son District is a mountainous district in the northwest, with over 90% of the population belonging to the Muong ethnic group. Located more than 80 km from Hanoi, the education sector in Lac Son District has always emphasized the development of professional competence for teachers to achieve sustainable development goals in education quality.
In collaboration with the Education Department of Lac Son District, the STEM for Vulnerable Adolescents organized a training program for STEM teachers. A total of 170 teachers from preschool, primary, and secondary levels participated in the program.
The workshop was led by Ms. Dao Thi Hong Quyen, who was honored to receive the “Power of Radiance 2023” award. The funding for the program came from Ms. Dao Thi Hong Quyen’s “Power of Radiance 2023” award. With her expertise and dedication, Ms. Quyen effectively imparted knowledge and skills in applying advanced technology to STEM teaching, attracting attention and sparking interest among participating teachers.
The training program content was diverse and closely tailored to practical needs.
- Introduction to STEM Education: Teachers were introduced to the importance of STEM education, effective STEM teaching methods, and various rich educational STEM resources.
- Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in STEM Education: Teachers were guided on how to use AI to create lessons, supporting their daily teaching tasks.
- Using Virtual Laboratories in STEM Teaching: Teachers were instructed on how to use the PhET virtual laboratory to create a realistic and engaging learning environment for students.
- Application of Smartphones in STEM Education: Teachers were guided on how to use smartphones to create interactive lessons, organize group learning activities, and assess student performance.
The highlights
The Lac Son District Education Department’s training program marks the first destination of the “Power of Radiance” program in Hoa Binh Province. The program is expected to organize further activities in other districts.
The STEM training workshop is a significant step in the development of education in Lac Son District. It is hoped that with the efforts of leadership at all levels, schools, and teachers, STEM education will continue to grow stronger, contributing to the improvement of education quality and the training of high-quality human resources for the locality.
