STEM girls workshop in Lang Chanh District, Thanh Hoa province
On December 29, 2023, the STEM for Vulnerable Adolescent Project – Power of Radiance successfully collaborated with the Lang Chánh District Department of Education and Training to organize a STEM Workshop for female students in the district. The workshop attracted a large number of students with beneficial and inspiring activities, helping to ignite a passion for science and technology in the future generation of female students.
STEM Career Opportunities in Lang Chánh Hometown
Lang Chánh is a poor mountainous border district located in the western part of Thanh Hóa province, with the main ethnic groups being the Thai, Muong, and Kinh people. The workshop took place at the Lang Chánh District Boarding Secondary School, led by Ms. Đào Thị Hồng Quyên.
The Lang Chánh District Girls in STEM Workshop dedicated significant time to discussing the wide-ranging career opportunities in the STEM field both globally and locally in Lang Chánh. Globally, the demand for personnel in the STEM field is increasing worldwide. STEM professions are highly valued for their salaries and advancement opportunities. In Lang Chánh, the local economy is developing robustly, particularly in the bamboo production and processing sector. Factories like Bamboo King Vina are creating numerous job opportunities for STEM workers.

Developing STEM education is a crucial strategy to promote sustainable economic development and poverty eradication in Lang Chánh. STEM education helps train a high-quality workforce that meets the needs of the labor market. Specifically, embracing the spirit of the bamboo and developing the economy from bamboo, using advanced technology to process bamboo, is a sustainable path towards green economic development for Lang Chánh.
Empowering the role of girls and women
In the workshop program, female students tested their skills with creative STEM activities using bamboo materials. Under the guidance of experts, students were encouraged to unleash their creativity with seemingly simple bamboo pieces. They turned bamboo into bridges, assembled unique decorative objects, crafted interesting scientific models, or even created innovative toys.
Through discussions and hands-on activities, many female students expressed that STEM activities are essential and they can fully participate, harnessing their abilities.
