STEM for Girls workshop: The beauties of science
On March 16, 2023, at Chi Lăng High School in Pleiku City, Gia Lai, a special workshop named “The Beauty of Science” was held for high school students. This event was part of a series of activities aimed at promoting a love for and exploration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) among female students.

What is “science”
In the first part of the workshop, Dr. Đặng Văn Sơn focused on explaining and clarifying the concept of “science.” Dr. Đặng Văn Sơn presented in a lively and easy-to-understand manner how science helps us understand the world around us. Science is not just dry theories but a process of discovery, exploration, and empirical proof. Students were encouraged to ask questions, participate in discussions, and explore scientific phenomena in everyday life on their own.
Science in the kitchen
One of the most interesting parts of the workshop was “Science in the Kitchen.” Students were guided on how to view familiar activities in the kitchen from a scientific perspective. Small experiments, such as changing the color of food by adding different substances, baking using chemical reactions between ingredients, or exploring the fermentation process, helped them realize that science is present everywhere, even in the most everyday activities.
Interesting STEM activities
Interwoven with the career discussion section, the STEM workshop featured hands-on experiential activities. Dr. Đặng Văn Sơn led students through engaging experiments on water pressure, air pressure, versatile pH indicators…
The students enthusiastically participated in the activities and confidently expressed their thoughts.
The school’s companionship
Chi Lăng High School in Gia Lai demonstrated proactive and special attention to the content and goals of the workshop. Right from the planning stage, the school administration closely collaborated with experts from the Illuminate Your Knowledge program, such as Dr. Đặng Văn Sơn, Dr. Dương Tuấn Hưng, and Master Đào Thị Hồng Quyên, to ensure the success of the workshop and bring practical value to the students.
Not limited to the STEM workshop for women, Chi Lăng High School in Gia Lai continuously strives to create a creative and interactive learning environment, encouraging students to participate actively. The school also meticulously prepared the facilities, from laboratories to supportive equipment and practical tools, to provide students with the most realistic and vibrant learning experiences.
