Creating a Nationwide STEM Learning Movement

Attending a ceremony honoring teams with outstanding achievements in international STEM and robotics competitions on the afternoon of October 2 at the National Innovation Center (NIC Hoa Lac), Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung said that the Party, the State, schools, and organizations will continue supporting STEM development and expressed the hope that teachers will always accompany students in building a vibrant STEM learning movement that spreads across the country.

A Strategic Imperative

The honoring ceremony was not only held to recognize and commend the tremendous efforts and admirable achievements of collectives and individuals, but also to reaffirm the pioneering role of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education in the development of science and technology, innovation, and the training of a young, high-quality workforce for the country.

At the event, the Organizing Committee presented awards to teams winning top prizes at the kick-off round of the VEX Robotics competition, and honored teams achieving outstanding results at the national finals and world championship rounds of VEX Robotics 2025 and FIRST Tech Challenge Vietnam 2025.

On behalf of the Government and the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung acknowledged and congratulated the achievements of the students, teachers, experts, coaches, and the organizations and individuals who have accompanied and contributed to the success of Vietnamese teams participating in STEM and robotics competitions around the world.

“The achievements you have attained are not only a source of pride for yourselves, your families, and your schools, but also a great source of inspiration for your peers, and clear evidence of the capability of Vietnam’s young generation on major global technology stages,” Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung said.

At the same time, he highly appreciated the sense of responsibility and support provided by STEM development organizations in Vietnam over the past period, including NIC and the STEM Education Promotion Alliance (SEPA).

In the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution unfolding rapidly, preparing a high-quality workforce in STEM fields is a strategic imperative.

Around the world, STEM education has become an inevitable trend and is regarded as one of the most important pillars of modern education. Governments are racing to invest in integrated education programs, promote scientific and technological research and application, and encourage innovation in curricula from primary school to university and postgraduate levels.

Through this, younger generations are equipped with essential skills to solve the major challenges of our time, from responding to climate change to adapting to the rapid advancement of science and technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI).

Vietnam has issued many important guidelines and policies to promote education and training, particularly in the field of STEM. In particular, Resolutions No. 57 and No. 71 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology, innovation, national digital transformation, and education and training have set out several notable solutions, demonstrating the country’s determination to keep pace with global trends and build a modern education system that meets the development requirements of the new era.

STEM: A Journey of Nurturing Scientific Passion

Organizing and participating in domestic and international STEM and robotics competitions not only gives students opportunities to gain practical experience and develop comprehensive skills, but also contributes to building the image of an innovative Vietnam that is ready to integrate, catch up, move forward together with, and rise alongside developed countries in science and technology.

In particular, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that STEM is not limited to numbers or theoretical lessons; it is also a journey of nurturing a passion for science, inspiring creativity, and fostering teamwork among students. Through STEM and robotics competitions, students have trained their courage, determination, and problem-solving skills, and more importantly, cultivated a spirit of continuous learning and exploration of new technological knowledge.

“These are precisely the qualities of the high-quality human resources our country needs in order to realize the aspiration for rapid and sustainable development, and to soon become a strong, prosperous, and developed nation in the new era,” he affirmed.

To continue spreading the spirit of curiosity and learning, the Deputy Prime Minister called on ministries, sectors, central agencies, local authorities, and educational institutions to maintain and expand the scale and scope of this honoring ceremony so that it can become an annual activity within the series of events of National Innovation Day.

He expressed the hope that pupils and students will continue to nurture their passion for science, keep learning, and always aspire to discover new knowledge. He said he believes that, wherever they compete—domestically or internationally—they will always carry with them national pride and the aspiration of Vietnam. The Party, the State, schools, STEM-supporting organizations, and teachers will always stand by them in building a vibrant STEM learning movement that spreads throughout the country.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung wished for STEM and robotics movements in Vietnam to continue growing strongly and spreading widely, contributing to the training of a young generation that is confident, capable, and technologically proficient, ready to become global citizens.
